Turbine Oil Services
Turner Hydraulic Group introduced BESS - the first purpose-built truck in the UK for delivering clean heated oil at height - in 2010. Since that time the unit has been upgraded to 27 ton rigid drawbar with 20-foot trailer unit. We specialise in changing the gear oil or hydraulic oil in wind turbines.
Partnered with Peter Lonsdorfer, we provide the hardware for their UK operations. Although predominantly used with wind turbine businesses, the unit can operate on any oil changing or flushing application with oil centistokes ability from 15cst to 3000cst, on-board filtration cleanliness ability down to 3 micron and automatic heating control.

Key Benefits:
Stainless steel tanks
Purchase/storage/handling of oil
Gear box & hydraulic oil change
Normal oil change or an oil change with flushing service
A normal oil change is generally carried out if no special events have taken place - for example a product change, metal particles found in the gearbox or other contamination within the gearbox. In the event of a normal oil change, the system is not excessively rinsed. Following evacuation of the used oil and filter exchange, the gearbox is refilled, while still closed.
Oil change with rinsing
Rinsing is employed (for example in the event of product changes with mixed types) when the bearings are exchanged, if metal particles are discovered or in the event of the oil foaming. Depending on the manufacturer, 50% of the gear oil from its system capacity is used to run the gearbox for approximately 45 minutes at reduced speed during rinsing. In this process, coolers, filter system and hoses are rinsed through with the pumps internally fitted to the installation. Unless necessary, the gearbox is not opened, to further guarantee the continued purity of the oil (closed system).
Gear rinsing with lance
In the event of rinsing with a lance, the system is opened so that the gear wheels and inner walls of the gearbox can be cleaned using approximately 15% of the oil capacity of the gearbox. If the gearbox is opened, no guarantee of oil purity class can be provided (open system).

Stainless steel tanks
- Constantly Tempered Oil (30°C to 40°C).
- Oil filtration to comply to the degree of purity required.
- At every interface point, i.e. during container preparation or the filling of our vehicles with gear and/or hydraulic oil, the fresh oil is filtered to ensure that it is not contaminated with any foreign particles.
- Separate closed circuit system for Waste Oil and Fresh Oil.
- Full duty of care record for waste management.
Purchase/storage/handling of oil
- Standard fresh oils purchased as a bulk product for quality purposes.
- Delivery in temperature-controlled tanker.
- Storage in temperature-controlled stainless tanks (between 40°and 50°) for improved viscosity and filtering.
- Filtering at every interface point, i.e. during preparation or the filling of the vehicles for gear and/or hydraulic oil changes, to ensure that it is not contaminated with any dirt particles.
- Optional services – cleaning to DIN ISO standard 4406 classification (gear oils (16/14/11) and hydraulic oils (15/13/10)).
- Quality monitoring by an external company, where analyses are monitored daily to ensure guaranteed oil quality.
- Documentation can be downloaded via the Internet, at any time.
- Our vehicles are all fitted with the latest telemetry equipment to enable our customers to view online precisely where our lorries are located at any time.
Gear box & hydraulic oil change
- On arrival at an installation, work always starts with a checklist system.
- Wherever possible, given the nature of the installation, work is carried out in a closed circuit, to guarantee the degree of purity of the new oil.
- During oil changes, all filters in the system are exchanged.
- The evacuation pump for disposal of used oil is powered via the vehicle, so we are independent of any on-site power supply.

Oil cleaning to the cleanliness class DIN ISO 4406
- The purpose of filtration is to ensure that the gearbox oil or the hydraulic fluid conforms to the purity class required for the components in question.
- The purpose of filters is to limit solid contamination to a structurally defined level ("purity class") in order to guarantee the necessary efficiency and lifetime of the system.
- The Standard for wind turbines is DIN ISO 4406.
- 16-14-11 for Gearbox lubricants.
- 15-13-10 for Hydraulic lubricants.
- We have our own laboratory to test and ensure the cleanliness class according to DIN ISO 4406.
- To secure the standard, we count the oil particles over a bypass system at a minimum time period of 30 minutes.
